I'm at work (waaa - View image here: - ) so I'll have to wait to figure this out later. I believe what he's after is trapping both the keydown and keyup events, so that you only have flashlight while you hold the flashlight key. pressing the "F" key in the default configuration does this. This is written in "qw" style, but it shouldn't be hard to convert it.Įr. you should be able to script it this way. I'm guessing there is a command that switches from the gun to flashlight, and pushing it again switches from the flashlight back to the gun. ** Aall these cycles per second can be measured in Hertz if you want, but it's confusing.įlashlight alias. Other games seem to be able to manage this, or they've found some other way around Doom3's "rounding errors." It seems to me the game physics could be locked at 60 ticks-per second** or whatever, and yet still be able to output maximum game FPS. I still don't get why this was neccesary. that you'll only see 60 FPS no matter if you set your screen refresh higher, and if you do you may see tearing. So in the case of Doom3 I guess this means. If the game FPS is lower than the refresh, you see the FPS, and some game frames will be repeated, or subject to tearing. So the monitor refresh rate is an upper bound on how many frames you will see, regardless of how many FPS the game is generating.

Also some of the frames you see on the moniitor may not correspond to the frames produced by the game, and you may see that as tearing. If you're getting 100 FPS from a game and your screen refresh is only 60Hz, you'll only _see_ 60 frames per second because that's how often the monitor refreshes the image. Sure the data on the screen is refreshed at the FPS but the SCREEN itself is always being refreshed at a constant rate (60,70,75,80,85,90,100,120hz are the most common settings) by the video card/monitor.Įr. The refresh rate of the screen is completely (and I mean totally utterly) removed from the FRAME RATE of a game. I'm surprised that people could even question screen refresh rate versus frames per second.

So is it just looking at the Windows speaker config, and sets itself to whatever Windows says you have? (The Windows speaker config is in the Control Panel: Sounds and Audio Devices, Speaker Settings part of the window click Advanced.) Does anyone know yet?Īll right guys, have fun! And remember: in real life when someone opens a door behind you, you don't need to spin around and hose away with the chaingun! That sort of behavior is considered antisocial in real life. (4) How does DOOM 3 know how many speakers you have? In the game options you can set it to Surround Speakers ON/OFF. When you release Q, the script should then put away the flashlight and switch you back to your last equipped weapon. (3) Has anyone found a way to script DOOM 3's key commands? Specifically, I'd like a script to bind a key, say, Q since it's not being used for anything in the default config to put away whatever weapon you have out and whip out the flashlight when you press it. So what's the console command to show fps? (2) What's the best way to show fps? HardOCP used Fraps, which is kind of strange considering all ID games come with built-in framerate counters.

I, however, do not enjoy 60hz as it gives me a splitting headache after about 5 minutes of looking at it that way.

(1) What is the best refresh rate forcing utility right now? DOOM 3 seems to enjoy defaulting to 60hz on my Radeon 9800 Pro based rig. I'll start with some real easy questions.

Plus stuff like tweaking control setups to suit your play style, and if any cool mods come out I guess you can mention them here. This includes everything from making it run faster to making it look better. It's going to be intended for people to post any tweaks and tricks they found to make the DOOM 3 game playing experience more pleasant. I guess I'll be the one who gets this thread started.
